  • Brazilian Jiu JitsuFrom the beaches of Rio De Janeio, Brazil to the shores of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu transformed the face of mixed martial arts in the span of only a few short years. Originating in Japan as Kodokan Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ for short) made its way from Japan to Brazil in the earlier part of the 20th century during a wave of Japanese immigration to South America where it was adopted by the legendary Gracie family. The Gracies, among other notable figures in the sport adapted and honed the Japanese fighting art to become the dominant art of the budding Vale Tudo (Portuguese for ‘anything goes’) culture of Brazil that many recognize as modern mixed martial arts. BJJ, through its fast-moving system of holds, locks and choke holds teaches that a smaller fighter can overcome a larger, stronger opponent through the use of leverage and properly applied technique. Whether you’re an aspiring mixed martial artist, interested in a new angle on self defense or are looking for an exciting new method of physical fitness, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the system you’ve been looking for. Academy BJJ classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm. Students are often encouraged (though, not required) to compete in officially sanctioned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments and competitions and routinely win gold. - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

  • JuniorsThe Juniors program at The Guy Chase Academy of Martial Arts is intended for children ages 9 to 13 years old. Whether your child is taking their first steps on their path of martial arts training or if they have been with us since kindergarten, our Juniors program is suited to meet your child’s martial arts training needs. Our Juniors program introduces a wider spectrum of the martial arts taught to Academy adults as concepts are studied from the fundamentals of Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Kali, all in a single class while also spending time on the physical conditioning necessary to make your child a better martial artist in these arts. And just like the lessons learned in our Dragons program (intended for children ages 5-8), your child will grow in confidence as they learn important lessons about teamwork, focus and respect. If you have any questions at all about our Juniors Martial Arts program or are interested in enrolling your child, please feel free to contact us or drop by the Academy during regular class hours to see our Juniors in action. - 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • Muay ThaiMuay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and a vital part of Thai culture, dating back to the origins of the nation. As neighboring territories began relentless invasions into what is now Thailand, residents of the land required an effective form of self defense that could protect them from an armed enemy when they, as defenders, were unarmed. What rose out of this need was an efficient system of fighting that turned the 8 points of contact, the hands, feet, knees and elbows, into weapons as lethal as any weapon an invader might attack with. Because invading enemies of the region made it a habit to destroy all cultural records when they would sack villages and cities, the actual historical origins of Muay Thai, prior to the 20th century are hard to come by but through the years, this important piece of the Thai national identity rose out of the individual’s need for survival and into the spotlight as a massively popular sport. In Thailand, any man or woman worth their salt practices Muay Thai. Today, Muay Thai has risen to prominence in popular culture, appearing in movies and on television thanks to action stars like Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin. Through the centuries, Muay Thai has been practiced by kings and commoners alike; competitive and otherwise. At home, here in the states, Muay Thai has made major inroads into the world of Mixed Martial Arts because of its strong striking base. Because of the physical demands put on Nak Muay, practitioners of Muay Thai, the sport and art of Thai kickboxing is particularly well-known for building total body strength, improving flexibility as well as exponentially improving endurance levels. The Muay Thai taught at The Guy Chase Academy of Martial Arts comes from years of practice in actual Bangkok Muay Thai training camps where some of Thailand’s finest fighters have emerged. The techniques learned here are representative of authentic Siam fighting arts. The weaponry of Muay Thai is called Krabi Krabong. This ancient form uses swords, staff, spears etc.. that was utilize by the Siam people against the invading Burmese armies. This formal martial art form proved its ability on many battle fields while the using the great elephant as a effective tool to ram the on coming enemy. Krabi Krabong was practice on the ground, on horses and upon elephants. - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
